The population of Palestine is not very large. Approximately 48, 16,503. The area of the country is 6,020 square kilometers (2,320 square miles). 800 people live per square kilometer. In 1978, the Arab League declared Palestine an independent state on an emergency basis. Because the Palestinians could speak at the UN but did not have the right to vote.
