History

The Daily Naya Diganta started its journey in 2004. It is a subsidiary of Diganta Media Corporation which was founded by Mir Quasem Ali, a Bangladeshi politician. The current editor of this newspaper is Alamgir Mohiuddin. Diganta Television is its sister concern that was launched in 2008.

On June 17, 2012, Mir Quasem Ali, the chairman of the company, was arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion on the accusation of war crimes committed during the Liberation War of Bangladesh. The International Crimes Tribunal convicted him and condemned him to death. Hasanul Haq Inu, Bangladesh Information Minister accused this publication of spreading misinformation about the International Crimes Tribunal.

A group of the Dhaka Union of Journalists has evicted its units from the Naya Diganta, Diganta Television, Daily Sangram, and Weekly Sonar Bangla which are owned by Jamaat-e-Islami. In 2013, during the Shahbagh movement, some people invade the Naya Diganta office on Motijheel's Inner Circular Road and burned the paper roll. They claimed that this newspaper was affiliated with anti-independence political organizations. This newspaper's Chittagong office was also attacked on February 22. On February 24, 2013, they set fire to the newspaper after rejecting a hartal called by 12 Islamic-affiliated parties in Chittagong.

On 27th October 2019, on the 16th-anniversary occasion of this newspaper the editor of this newspaper, Alamgir Mohiuddin stated that "From its inception in 2004 to the present day, Naya Diganta has tried heart and soul to march on with its tagline 'every day with truth,' despite several hardships."
