Although Bangladesh is doing excellent in medicine production, it’s not the same for the treatment, especially heart treatment. Most of the Bangladeshi heart patients rely on India. Principle reason- The cost of the treatment.

Bangladesh also has heart treatment facilities, but India does that up-to 80% less in cost. Bypass surgery in Bangladesh costs around 4, 00,000 BDT-5, 00,000 BDT, where in India, the same surgery costs 80,000 BDT.

There’s also an infrastructure shortage. Bangladesh only has 4-5 fully functional heart treatment hospital. 01. Dr. Afjalur Rahman

On top of our list, we have someone who has more achievement besides being a doctor. We are talking about a person who is internationally known for his specific knowledge about cardiology and won multiple awards for his research and inventions in cardiology and Cardiovascular research and technology. On top of everything, Dr. Afjalur Rahman is the director of the highest Bangladeshi heart treatment center; the govt. owned the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases.

Dr. Afjalur Rahman is one of the most renowned senior heart specialists in Bangladesh. He got his M.B.B.S degree in 1984 from Rajshahi Medical College and in 1992, he received Doctor of Medicine from the same institute he became the director, later on, The National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases. He achieved his Ph.D. in Cardiology in 2004. Later, from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (Scotland) and Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (England), he got his FRCP degree.

He made the most remarkable development in the Bangladeshi heart treatment sector.

02. Dr. Lutfor Rahman

Dr. Lutfor Rahman from Labaid Cardiac Hospital, Dhaka is known as the Dr. Devi Sethi of Bangladesh. He is one of the top cardiac surgeons in Bangladesh. He performed over 5,000 bypass surgery with a great success rate. He is the first doctor to perform ": Beating Heart Surgery" in Bangladesh, which is a surgery whilst the heart is beating.

At the beginning of his career, he did govt. job for 10 years, as an assistant professor of cardiology at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases. 03. Dr. Nurun Nahar Fatema

Dr. Nurun Nahar Fatema graduated in medicine from Machester. But that's not her only identity. In 1987, she joined in Bangladesh Army. In 1998, she founded the Pediatric Cardiology department in Combined Military Hospital (CMH), which was the first child health care unit in Bangladesh. She founded Child Heart Trust Bangladesh with a coalition of another legendary pediatrician, Dr. M. R. Khan. In 2007, she founded Wadood Moimunnessa Foundation, named after her parents, is a lighthouse in Bangladeshi child healthcare.

Dr. Nurun Nahar Fatema has treated around 6,000 child heart patients successfully so far. Which includes so many complex surgeries that were believed can't be performed in Bangladesh. She is known as the "Mother of Pediatric Cardiology" in Bangladesh. In 2019, she was awarded The Independence Day Award, also termed Swadhinata Padak, which is the highest state award given by the government of Bangladesh for his outstanding achievement in the Bangladeshi health sector.

Dr. Tanjima Parvin is a cardiologist and medicine specialist. She is an assistant professor in the Cardiology department of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital (Old PG hospital). Her chamber is on the 5th floor of Popular Diagnostic center, Shantinagar, Dhaka.

He earned his MBBS degree from Sher-e-Bangla Medical College in 1982. He also served in India as Staff Surgeon in I.C.V.D. Madras Medical Mission from 1996 to 1999.

08. Dr. Reyan Anis

Dr. Reyan Anis got her MBBS from Dhaka Medical College in 197. Then she worked at the Combined Military Hospital for more than a year as an intern. Then completed a course in Internal Medicine at the Edinburgh Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, UK in 1989. Currently, she is working in the cardiac center, United Hospitals, Dhaka.

Returning to the country in 1992, she did a Clinical Fellowship in Cardiology at the National Heart Institute and in mid-1994 she joined the Department of Cardiology at Bardem Hospitals.

Professor Dr. A M Muzibul Haque is a cardiologist and also a teacher. He is a professor of cardiology in Medical College for Women and Hospital, Uttara, Dhaka. He received his MBBS degree from Dhaka Medical College an M. Phil degree from London, UK.
