Bdnews24 is a privately owned Bangladeshi online news portal. It began as a web-based news agency called 'BDNews' in 2005, but it first launched as a dot-com news site in 2006. It is Bangladesh's first digital newspaper. Taufiq Imroz Khalidi has been the website's editor since its establishment.

Bdnews24 manages another website named Hello.bdnews24.com. It is the world's first Bengali website dedicated to children's journalism. Adolescent and child journalists cover the news. UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund, has been supporting this effort. Many persons who have received training here have gone on to work in the country's professional mainstream media.

History

In 2005, Bangladesh News 24 Hours Ltd founded a web-based news agency. It was the country’s first exclusively web-based news agency. It was known as BDNEWS. A Bangladeshi developer named Ahmed Yasir Riad developed the bdnews24.com website.

Yasir relaunched bdnews24.com as Bangladesh's first free online news site in October 2006, and it was renamed bdnews24.com. Khalidi, the editor-in-chief, is a former BBC broadcaster and journalist. On May 28, 2012, men carrying machetes attacked the bdnews24.com headquarters, wounding three journalists.

This website is the first 24/7 bilingual news portal in Bangladesh. At that time, there were two other national news agencies named Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha and United News of Bangladesh. In mid-2006, the authority is vested between Toufique Imrose Khalidi (Managing Director and Editor-in-chief) and Asif Mahmood (Chair of the company).

On June 18, 2018, the Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission issued an e-mail to mobile phone and IIG operators instructing them to remove the link to the bdnews24.com website. The website was later closed. Later, many publications reported that Bdnews24 was closed after publishing news about Joseph, the brother of Army General Aziz Ahmed, convicted in the murder case and freed at the President's preference. As an unannounced penalty, the website was closed for a few hours. However, the site was relaunched a few hours later.

Toufique Imrose Khalidi is the editor-in-chief of this popular online news portal. Khalidi is a journalist and media figure in Bangladesh. He has been the publisher and editor-in-chief of his news agency, bdnews24.com, since 2006. Before establishing bdnews24.com, Khalidi worked in editorial and media management for broadsheet newspapers in Bangladesh. He also worked for the BBC in the United Kingdom as a broadcaster, producer, and editor.

In 2013, Khalidi urged bilateral help from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia to integrate Bangladesh's ethnic and mainstream societies. In 2017, Khalidi received the National ICT award.
