Kaler Kantho is a popular newspaper in Bangladesh. This newspaper is owned by East West Media Group which is a sister concern of Bashundhara Group, a leading conglomerate in Bangladesh. The same group owns some other top news portals such as News24, Daily Sun, Bangladesh Pratidin, Banglanews24, and Radio Capital.

History

Kaler Kantho started its journey on January 10 2010 under the editorship of Abed Khan. After one and a half years, Abed Khan resigned. Then Imdadul Haq Milan, a Bangladeshi novelist took the responsibility. Milan became the brand ambassador and director of East West Media Group. Shahed Mohammad Ali had become the editor of this newspaper in 2021.

Kaler Kantho has both online and print versions. They cover news in different regular categories such as Khobor (News), Banijya (Trade), Poralekha (Education), Shompadokiya (Editorial), Deshe Deshe (Home and Abroad), and many more. Along with the printed version, the online portal of this newspaper publishes news in a wide range of categories such as Islami Jibon (Islamic Life), Corporate Corner, Jatiyo (National), Jibonjapon (Lifestyle), Rajniti (Politics), etc. Besides, this newspaper includes feature pages. The paper is printed in broadsheet format.

East West Media Group reports that the journal has reached its quota of 250,000 print copies. However, this was the very first year of publication. It is the third most circulated Bengali daily, with 290,200 copies distributed in May 2021.

Kaler Kantho’s online version is equally popular in Bangladesh. Besides, this newspaper is read online by hundreds of thousands of internet users from many countries. As of December 2022, this newspaper has received 9.4 million visits.

Abed Khan was the founding editor of Kaler Kantho. He is a prominent columnist and journalist. For several decades, he has been a key player in Bangladesh's journalism sector. He is the editor of The Daily Jagaran at present. He has written for several Bangladeshi publications, including Janakantha, Prothom Alo, and Bhorer Kagoj.

Imdadul Haq Milan had become the daily newspaper Kaler Kantho's editor after the resignation of Abed Khan in 2011. He is a journalist and novelist. He received the Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1992 and the Ekushey Padak in 2019. In 1973, he published his debut story, Bondhu. Jabojjibon, his debut book, was published in Uttaradhikar magazine. Milan has released approximately 200 novels as of February 2019.
